Overview
Monday May 7, 1945 – the Second World War finally comes to an end and a new, brighter future beckons. In the midst of central Stockholm celebrations, two strangers come together with a quick kiss, parting company immediately after. Upper-class girl Nina and kitchen hand Calle don’t yet know that their brief encounter will come to have tumultuous consequences.

Early Summer
As the Löwander family is preparing to open their restaurant, Nina meets Calle again for the first time since she tried to take her own life.

Midsummer
Peter and the other staff prepare the midsummer celebration at the summer restaurant. Nina and Calle are colleagues but, beneath the surface, deeper feelings burn.

Height of the Summer
Nina visits Erik and Christina in Skåne, but it’s not a harmonious reunion. Helga suspects that something happened between Nina and Calle on Midsummer's Eve.

Late Summer
As the restaurant’s about to close for the season, Calle and Sonja's marriage is cracking at the seams, while Nina sinks into depression, despite Helga and Backe’s help.
